Outfits 101 | Preparing for Your Senior Session

One of the biggest questions I get from my senior girls and their parents, is how to choose senior outfits! Often they wonder what to bring, how much to bring, and how they will change and transition from one outfit to another. Here’s some answers to your questions!

How many outfits should I bring? I recommend 2-3 outfits. You can easily change an outfit by just swapping or adding a jacket or accessories. Starting with neutrals like cream, grey, and navy make it easy to get some good variations in your photos. Some examples of that are below, where my gorgeous models added a taupe jacket and a denim jacket to make a whole new look! Remember to include one more classic piece so you have photos that show a timeless look you will love for generations. Then, you can choose your other outfits to express trendier or more dramatic styles. Some ideas for a classic piece would be a tailored blazer or a button down blouse, or a solid color dress. These will be beautiful for years to come!

We want your personality to take center stage, and you can use accessories or shoes to add pops of personality to neutrals if you want to take things up a notch. In the above shot, that beautiful statement necklace makes that outfit memorable! And, try your outfits on beforehand, with shoes and all accessories, to make sure you can move and feel comfortable in your photos, and don’t forget the proper undergarments that won’t peek out during your session! And, of course, the prettiest accessory is a genuine smile!

Both are perfect as long as it reflects YOU! Don’t necessarily worry about what’s in at the time but what makes you comfortable and will create a timeless look.  (Ugh, now I’m having flashbacks of neon striped shirts and mile-high bangs from the 80’s – not that I have a school picture like that or anything… 😉 Stick to pieces that you feel confident and amazing in…remember, your photos don’t have to look like everyone else’s! If you LOVE vintage dresses, then wear them! Or if you’re into a bohemian look, include key pieces to showcase some of your favorite looks.
