How to Find the Best Clothes for your Body Type | Senior Tips

virginia-senior-portrait-photographer-paige-pearson-photography_0274When shopping for your senior session, there are a multitude of trends that will call to you…everything from skinny jeans to boho tunics and a-line dresses. How do you know what will work best? Well, heading to the dressing room is a good place to start, but there is also a way to find out the trends that will work for your body type, height and style. How? By finding your perfect shapes! Of course not every “rule” will apply to you even when you find your body type (some gals rock a bohemian look even if they aren’t a typical shape or size for that trend…we think you should wear what flatters you and makes you feel amazing), but they are helpful especially for the girl who may not know where to begin.

First, head over here to WHOWHATWEAR, which has a handy little body calculator that takes your measurements and helps you find your idea shape. Remember that this is not about weight, but rather about flattering your proportions. Girls of all shapes and heights can benefit from some basic pointers, and it can help dramatically to know what will automatically look amazing.

Second, find the styles you love on Polyvore by searching for specific items. For example, WHOWHATWEAR recommends a peplum style jacket for those with “inverted triangle” body types because of the defined waist. On Polyvore, you can search for peplum jackets and find price ranges, brands and more. You can also go the more traditional route, and write down your measurements and a few key styles and head out to the stores yourself. Nordstrom online offers something called ‘True Fit” where you can click”find my true fit” and enter your measurements. When you click an item of clothing on their site, it tells you what size will fit you best…isn’t that cool??

Lastly, remember there isn’t a trend you CAN’T wear, but there are cuts of clothing that will flatter virginia-senior-portrait-photographer-paige-pearson-photography_0249you most. If you love the bohemian trend but need a defined waist or a less flowy cut, seek out clothes with bohemian details like embroidery and fringe that have a better styling for you. Maybe you love the cut of classics like skinny jeans or a-line dresses, but want a little more fun; try searching out classic cuts with bright jewel tones, or layering on funny accessories to keep it youthful and fun.

If you feel truly lost, we recommend one of our favorite online boutiques where they have tons of affordable and trendy styles that you are sure to love!
