Battlefield FCA Power Camp | Events

Some of the joy of being a photographer means I get to do some unconventional shoots as well as more traditional ones.  Last week, I had the amazing opportunity to photograph the Battlefield Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Power Camp at Fredericksburg Christian School.  My own children have attended there for several years, as both campers and junior huddle leaders, and this was my second year to photograph the week-long Christian sports camp.  Coaches, huddle leaders and campers came from all over the Spotsylvania, Fredericksburg and Stafford area to attend the week-long camp for kids ages 8-12.  Campers were given the opportunity to practice sports, and develop character through team building activities, guest speakers, and instruction in their chosen sport from area college level athletes and high school coaches.  Sports included: baseball, basketball, football, lacrosse, canoe/kayak, soccer, archery, survival skills, swimming, triathlon, cheerleading, field hockey, and volleyball.  The great thing is that these campers do not need to have prior skills in the sports they choose for camp.  My daughter has participated in volleyball, field hockey, soccer and swimming and had no prior competitive experience in these sports!

This year’s theme was Undefeated, which was based on the following verse.

“But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57

The Battlefield FCA website describes the theme Undefeated in this way – “We serve a God who has never lost.  His string of victories is unmatched.  He has dominated the competition throughout history.  He is the ultimate competitor with a game plan that cannot be stopped.  God is holy.  God is mighty.  He is UNDEFEATED!” I loved that theme!

Each day, the campers learned more about this verse as they were guided through activities by junior high and high school aged huddle leaders.  For me, this is one of the most amazing parts of Power Camp!  It is truly amazing to watch the huddle leaders bond with and encourage the younger campers throughout the week.  Their love for Christ shines through as they lead campers through team meetings, team and character building activities, daily devotions, and practice in their chosen sport. What an amazing thing to watch as these young people step up to encourage and show God’s love!

Here’s a look at just some of the images taken at Power Camp!  I’m already looking forward to next year’s camp! Interested in keeping up with Battlefield FCA events throughout the year?  You can follow on facebook or twitter @battlefieldfca.
